One of the most widely publicized works of Churches Together in Rome is the annual Lenten Season Rice Bowl project (in 2010, they raised funds for the Sts. Joseph Orphanage in Roxas City, Capiz , the Philippines (named after St. Joseph the Worker and St. Joseph Cottolenggo of Turin), which serves young girls from newborns to 18 years of age, who are abused, neglected, orphaned or abandoned, as well as young girls in poor homes nearby; and in 2009, the Rice Bowl collection assisted in feeding up to 19,000 orphans in the Anglican Church of Kenya Diocese of Maseno North, Western Kenya, by literally providing them with a bowl of rice for Saturday lunch. Raising money for these projects includes a Sponsored Walk every Palm Sunday afternoon. Among other prayer services, charity fundraisers and social gatherings, the members of Churches Together in Rome organize prayer services and workshops in connection with the annual Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, January 18-25. Both pastors and laypersons make up the membership of Churches Together in Rome. Further information may be obtained by contacting Santa Susanna or any of the other member Churches.
