 Request Papal Audience Tickets
SPECIAL NOTICE RE: THE GENERAL AUDIENCES OF POPE BENEDICT XVI:
News about the Wednesday Papal Audiences in 2009 (updated February 4, 2010): Tickets are necessary for the Audiences and can be ordered by clicking on "Tickets". The Pope will have audiences in the Paul VI Audience Hall (to the left of St. Peter's Basilica) on the Wednesdays of February and March. There will not be an audience on Wednesday, February 24, due to the Papal Staff Lenten Retreat Week. There will be an audience on Ash Wednesday, February 17 at 10:30, which does not include distribution of Ashes (Please come to Santa Susanna for Mass and distribution of ashes at 12 Noon or 6 PM). We are not able to provide tickets to any of the Holy Week Services or Easter Sunday.
You may want to check the Vatican website periodically. www.vatican.va, click on Latest Updates, then Prefecture of the Papal Household, and look at the schedule on the right hand side of the page.)
PLEASE, PLEASE NOTE that when you write to us, we are the Church of Santa Susanna. We are not the Prefettura, the Papal Household, Archbishop Harvey's Office, or the US Bishops' Visitors Center. With the exception of the latter, to contact the other offices, please go to www.vatican.va. We have had a great many requests lately to arrange Baptisms, First Communions and Confirmations with the Pope or at St. Peter's Basilica. We are unable to assist with any of these requests, and the Pope himself is not available to celebrate these sacraments, and we encourage you to celebrate them in your local parish community.
Because of the volume of requests we receive, we cannot always send you an email confirming your ticket request. If your email or fax went through, please presume that we have received your request and will put tickets aside for you. If you are concerned to re-confirm your request you can telephone us here in Rome, however this is NOT NECESSARY and we prefer that you do not call. Because the volume has increased this past year, we can only respond two or three weeks before your requested audience date. And please note that sometimes we do respond and because of your spam filters, your server rejects our emails. So just don't worry. And please, please, let us know if you are cancelling and do not double book with the Bishops Visitors Center. It really is not necessary.
For tickets, SCROLL DOWN TO THE ORDER FORM. Regarding Sposi Novelli (newlywed) tickets: Newlyweds (within 8 weeks of your wedding) can sit in a special section, with or without their wedding attire AND must have their Wedding Certificate with them. You do get better seats with your wedding attire, however. Occasionally, just occasionaly, one or two couples have been turned away because they weren't wearing their wedding outfit! Unfortunately this sometimes has to do with the whims of the particular guards of the day, though officially they are supposed to let you into the Newlywed section. We wish we had more control over this, but unfortunately have little power, other than to complain. We thank you your patience and your devotion.
The Sunday Angelus is led by the Pope in Saint Peter's Square (Piazza San Pietro) at 12 Noon. Tickets are not required. But not during August!
Please read the following very carefully before you fill out the form.
PLEASE DO NOT ORDER TICKETS FOR THE AUGUST AUDIENCES, as YOU DO NOT NEED THEM (If the Pope has audiences in August, there are no tickets as the Vatican Printing Office is closed for the August holiday. As noted above, the location of the August Audiences will only be announced the day before each audience.).
1. When to request tickets:
Ticket requests can be made by Internet using the following form or they can also be sent to us by fax from the US: (011.3906.4201.4328). We prefer that you contact us by Internet or email. The request must be made at least two weeks in advance. We cannot accept ticket requests more than ten weeks prior to the event. AND PLEASE NOTE: Because we only receive the tickets themselves the day before the audience, we cannot possibly mail them to you, nor can we deliver them to your hotel.
BECAUSE THE VOLUME HAS INCREASED RECENTLY, WE CAN ONLY RESPOND TWO TO THREE WEEKS BEFORE YOUR REQUESTED AUDIENCE DATE. And please note that sometimes we do respond and because of your spam filters, your server rejects our emails. So just don't worry. And please, please, let us know if you are cancelling and do not double book with the Bishops Visitors Center. It really is not necessary.
2. Where to pick up your tickets
Tickets are normally picked up at the Church of Santa Susanna, the Tuesday evening before the Wednesday Audience between 5 and 6:30 PM. Fr. Tom, Fr. Greg or our Sacristan Bita, will be sitting at our Visitor Desk, and will have the tickets for you. For the December 9 Audience, you can pick up your tickets on Tuesday, December 8, between 5 and 6:30 PM IN THE PARISH OFFICE next door to the Church. December 8 is a religious and civil holiday. The Church itself will be in use at that time with the Cistercian Nuns with whom we share the Church. Please do not disturb them (as Mass will be in progress) but follow the sign to the parish office. You can also pick them up on Wednesday morning between 7.30 and 8.30 AM at the Visitors Desk in the Church. Masses in English for this Holy Day are Monday, December 7 at 6 PM and Tuesday, December 8 at 10:30 AM.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE AUDIENCE TICKETS ARE FREE, and as long are you make a reservation we will provide one for you. While the tickets are free, we ask you to consider making a free will donation per ticket in order for us to continue this service and to help us with our many other ministries. But a donation is NOT required. As there is a daily 6 PM Mass in English, you can both pick up your tickets and come to Mass.
We are located at the corner of Via Venti Settembre and the Largo Santa Susanna (at the top of Via Barberini/Via Bissolati). The address is Via Venti Settembre 15. You can reach the Church of Santa Susanna by bus, taxi, subway or on foot. We are located one block north of the Piazza della Repubblica, a major bus and subway stop. If you are coming by cab, tell the driver to take you to The St. Regis Grand Hotel and just walk across the street to the Church.
We normally receive the tickets JUST before we distribute them. So please be aware that tickets are not available in advance and cannot be sent to you, mailed or delivered to your hotel. If you cannot pick up your tickets the evening before the event and you give us advance notice, it may be possible for us to leave your envelope in the back of the church and you can pick them up the morning of the event between 7:30 and 8:30 AM when the church is open for a mass in Italian.
3. Newlywed Tickets (Sposi Novelli):
If you are planning to attend a papal audience following your wedding you may qualify for Newlywed or Sposi Novelli tickets. This is only available for couples who have been married in the Catholic Church within two months of the papal audience. There is a special seating section for newlyweds. Please know, however, that Pope Benedict XVI has not continued the tradition of blessing newlywed couples individually. Still you must request these tickets IN ADVANCE.
Newlywed (Sposi Novelli) Tickets: Newlyweds (within 8 weeks of your wedding) can sit in a special section. THOUGH IT IS PREFERABLY THAT YOU WEAR YOUR WEDDING ATTIRE, those without the attire can still sit up front but in a different section, but YOU MUST HAVE their Wedding Certificate with them. This does not mean that the Pope Benedict XVI will individually bless each couple as Pope John Paul II did. We have been told that this practice has been discontinued permanently.
AGAIN, for now, to get sposi novelli tickets, you must be married within two months of the papal audience. AND, you must show proof of your recent marriage at the entrance.
4. Other Concerns
If you have additional questions you can leave it on the message part of this form, or you can send us a separate email at tickets@santasusanna.org. We will try and answer your questions, but sadly, and due to the volume of our email, we cannot establish a long term and regular correspondence with you, even though we would like to! We do look forward to meeting you in Rome.
Please Note
Christmas and Easter (and Pentecost), and the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul: Due to the ever increasing volume of ticket requests for Christmas and Easter, other Feasts and Canonization Masses, we no longer provide this service as we just cannot guarantee you a ticket! (Please read the information at the top of this section FIRST.) Tickets have become extremely difficult to acquire and we only learn at the very last moment how many tickets we will get. There are always far fewer than requested! Having to sit and tell people they are not going to Saint Peter's and experiencing their hurt and anger is just too much for us! Especially as we are preparing to celebrate our own Christmas and Easter services at Santa Susanna. And, of course, you are always very welcome to come and worship in English with us!
If you want to apply for a ticket for Christmas or Easter, you can contact Monsignor Roger Roensch or the Religious Sisters of Mercy of Alma, Michigan, at the Bishops Office for U.S. Visitors Office to the Vatican, Via dell' Umiltá 30, 00187 Rome, Italy.
You can telephone them at Rome Tel. 011-3906-6900-1821 or send them a fax at FAX: 011/3906/679-1448
They can also be reached by email at: nacvisoffrome@pnac.org
Do not expect a response from them because of the amount of requests they receive. T
There will not be an audience on Wednesday, January 6 (Epiphany). And we will not be receiving any tickets for the Papal Masses on December 24, 25, 31 or January 1 or 6.

Anything you can offer is greatly appreciated, but again, THESE TICKETS ARE TOTALLY FREE, so the offering is up to you.
Please Note We no longer supply tickets for the Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, the Easter Vigil or the Easter Morning Mass at Saint Peter's Basilica with the Holy Father. We do offer tickets for other masses (occasionally) with the Holy Father and always for General Audiences.
