Rev. John Francis Duffy, CSP, Vice Rector

Rev. John Francis Duffy, CSP joins the Santa Susanna Parish Staff as Vice Rector on September 1, 2011. Fr. John has been with us at Santa Susanna many times throughout the years, and most recently in his capacity as President of the Paulist Fathers. The attached picture was recently taken on the terrazzo (terrace) of the Paulist Fathers' Rectory, with the Ministry of Agriculture in the background.

Fr. Duffy received his bachelor's degree in Biology from Harvard University in 1969 and a MA in Theology from Catholic University in 1974. His first assignment was at Good Shepherd Church in New York City, where he served one year as a deacon and then three years as a priest after he was ordained in May of 1975. From 1978-79 he was stationed at the Parroquia de San Rafael in Quebradillas, Puerto Rico. After that he served three years on the parish staff at the Paulist’s mother church, St. Paul the Apostle in Manhattan. Beginning in 1982, Fr. John was in residence at Saint Leo the Great in Houston. While there, his ministerial assignments were as follows: 1982-83 Associate Director of Hispanic Ministry for the (then) Diocese of Galveston/Houston (now an Archdiocese); 1983-86 Director of Paulist Bilingual Mission team; and 1986-88 Director of Pastoral Formation at Saint Mary's Seminary in Houston.

In 1988, Fr. Duffy served as the Paulist Director of Vocations for six years. He returned to Texas in 1994, where he was in residence at Saint Austin's Church, serving as the Director of Evangelization for the Texas Catholic Conference. In the Fall of 97, Fr. John came to Rome for a sabbatical at the North American College in their Institute. The following Spring of 1998, he became theAssociate Director of Formation at the Paulist seminary in Washington D.C. (St. Paul’s College, and then the Director of Formation from 1998 until 2002. He was elected President of the Missionary Society of St. Paul the Apostle in 2002, a position in which he served for eight years. This past year, Fr. John has been on sabbatical and has been preparing for his return to the Eternal City. We are very grateful to have Fr. John Duffy with us for the next few years.
