The Baptism of St. Genesius

Here in the chapel of Saint Lawrence, commissioned by Princess Camilla Peretti is the tomb of Saint Genesius, the patron saint of actors. Here in this fresco by Giovanni Battista Pozo, the baptism of Genesius is depicted. Genesius wrote a play, making fun of the sacrament. Here in this fresco, a bishop (actor) baptizes Genesius and at this moment in the production, Genesius actually seeks to be baptized. He declares he wants to be a Christian. Pozzo finished these frescos in 1591 and died a few months later. The fresco is one of his few works that exist in Rome.
